Washington for Peace & Justice Advocacy Day: Join us in Taking Action
Earlier this month, Joey joined Washington for Peace & Justice for their 3rd annual Advocacy for Peace and Justice day in Olympia. We celebrate with WA4PJ that 100 advocates in 39 districts were able to attend, with 79 in-person and 4 virtual legislator meetings!
WA4PJ's main legislative priorities this year include requesting an investigation into the killing of Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi (SJM 8014), modernizing terminology related to immigration status (HB 2632), and the Responsible Investment Act (SB 6304). Please join us in taking action on each of these priorities:
SJM 8014 passed the Senate and will be heard in the House on 2/24 at 1:30PM. Sign in PRO by 2/24 at 12:30 PM. Learn more here.
HB 2632 replaces the term "alien" with "non-citizen," removing this dehumanizing term from WA state law. This bill passed the House and will be heard in the Senate on 2/20 at 1:30 PM. Sign in PRO by 2/20 at 12:30 PM.
SB 6304 is unlikely to be passed in 2026, but the work continues as we push the Washington State Investment Board to require consideration of the external costs of human rights abuses, weapons manufactures, private prisons, and environmental damage. Just as we call our state to prioritize responsible investments, we ask our network to reflect and act: What would it look like for our faith communities to consider the impacts of our investments, and to make shifts toward responsible stewardship? More to come...
