Drag Fundraiser Recap!

Photos by Daniel Vingo @danielvingo and Tara Miller

We had a fabulous, silly, and effervescent second annual Drag Fundraiser on June 14! This night was not just about fundraising to support the Church Council's work, it was also a night of joy - holding firm to the value that our very existence is one of the strongest forms of resistance we can embody in this moment. Especially now, as attacks against trans communities and especially trans kids, are growing, as well as increasing violence against migrant communities, we believe that we have a moral obligation to celebrate the vast diversity of our network and lead proudly from our identities, as together we build collective power for transformational change.

We also said our first of two communal goodbyes to Co-Executive Director Joey Lopez and to Dustin, the First Gentleman. Board and staff honored the gifts Joey has shared with us over the past six years by committing to carrying those gifts forward into the Church Council's future. SAVE THE DATE for a final happy hour goodbye late afternoon on July 28!

We are proud to share that we received over $9,000 in donations through this event. Our goal is $10,000, so we are only $784 shy! If you were not able to attend, you can still help us reach our goal by making a contribution today. Throw some virtual tip money to our lovely host Sister Carolina Sanchez (Joey's drag persona!) through our donation page!

Special thanks to our staff & board, performers, and key volunteers:
