WAISN Membership Convening & Steering Committee Retreat

In August, our team participated in Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network (WAISN)’s Membership Convening and the Steering Committee Retreat.

Marina and members of Grupo de Solidaridad attended the Membership Convening, reaffirming our commitment to supporting and showing up in solidarity with migrant individuals and families in our community. The event provided an opportunity to come together, share experiences, strengthen relationships, and build greater solidarity among community members. For the Grupo, these spaces are essential to continuing to build a stronger, organized, and caring community where no one has to face difficult times alone.

The Church Council is one of the founding Steering Committee members of WAISN. We participate in monthly meetings and annual retreats to strategize around WAISN’s state-level policy platform. Tara attended the Steering Committee retreat this year, where we deepened relationships, considered legislative priorities for the 2027 session, and considered fundraising strategies in the midst of a difficult financial season for WAISN. As attacks against migrant communities continues to escalate across our state, particularly in north and south King County, holding our elected officials accountable to protecting migrant communities and truly living into being a “sanctuary state” is vital.
