People of Faith for No Hate!
The Church Council endorsed the No Hate in Washington State campaign to oppose two anti-trans ballot initiatives coming to our ballots this fall (I-638 and IL26-001).
Join us in voting NO on November 3! These initiatives are an attempt to increase the social stigmas, discrimination, and violence against transgender young people in our state and puts all of our children at risk.
In July, the Church Council co-hosted People of Faith for No Hate in East King County to raise awareness of the campaign and solicit faith endorsement. We are hosting a second event in South King County on October 3 - let us know if you'd like to come!
IL26-001 would:
Repeal the Safety Act, stripping away protections for children, increasing the risk of abuse.
Force schools to “out” LGBTQ students to families, putting them at risk for abuse and homelessness.
Make it harder for students to safely report bullying, depression, violence, or sexual abuse at a time when students are already struggling.
Disrupt classrooms, giving a small group of extremist parents the power to interfere with what teachers can teach and exposing schools to costly lawsuits.
IL26-638 would:
Roll back a successful, commonsense policy that has allowed Washington schools to handle complex sport situations on a case-by-case basis since 2007.
Institute a statewide blanket ban on trans girls playing sports.
Subject girls as young as 11 to invasive genital exams just to participate in school sports—while boys are exempt.
Increase the risk of abuse and discrimination, particularly for Black, brown, immigrant, low-income, and rural girls who already face medical barriers.
November 3 - Vote NO!
