Updates from Grupo de Solidaridad

At Grupo's last meeting, an immigration attorney joined us to provide key updates on the current immigration situation. The session generated a space for dialogue where participants were able to ask direct questions, express their concerns, and share their experiences, especially about the presence of ICE agents outside of courts, an issue that generated collective concern.

In addition, they worked on strategies to reinforce "Know Your Rights" trainings and the development of family safety plans, which are vital safety and preparation tools.

Grounded in our values of convivencia, Grupo lived into the collective resilience needed in this moment - reaffirming that despite difficult times, our community remains organized, informed, and united. The meeting also offered a moment of joy with Venezuelan empanadas, strengthening the bonds of solidarity and mutual care.

From the Church Council, we celebrate the grassroots work that continues to grow, and we extend the invitation to all who wish to join, learn, and accompany this struggle for justice and dignity for all. We are currently trying to grow our network of free notary services and Spanish-English bilingual volunteers who can help families fill out family safety plan documents (training will be provided). If this sounds like something you can help with, email us!
