Seattle city budget wrap-up: We are disappointed that City Council did not ensure the original JumpStart spending plan, allowing City Council to keep using JumpStart revenue as a slush fund to fill the city’s revenue shortfall. We believe the city needs more progressive revenue sources in addition to JumpStart. However, it is clear that our witness had an impact on Council members.

This Thursday (11/21), Seattle City Council will vote to approve the city's budget. The Church Council's Budget Roundtable will be present at the Specially Called City Council Meeting, offering public comment, as we have for the past 6 weeks.

Throughout the Council’s history, we have worked toward a future when justice is realized, where all people experience liberation, profound peace, expansive equity, and joy-filled human flourishing. This is possible because the Council is a collective. Together, we can do hard things and navigate hard times…because we already have!

Our Seattle Budget Cycle Roundtable showed up for the city budget meeting in even larger numbers than before, making it clear through word and witness that budgets are a moral document! Join us for two Seattle Budget Forums!

The Council held a forum entitled Understanding Forced Migration, centering the lived experiences of Daniel, Adriana, and Don, and facilitated by Flor. Our panelists encouraged continued support of newly arriving migrant communities and work towards true inclusion in society.
