Sandy BrownRev. Dr. Sanford “Sandy” Brown became executive director of the Church Council in 2003, bringing with him over twenty years' experience as both a pastor and community leader.

From 1986 to 1992, Rev. Brown led Lake Washington United Methodist Church in Kirkland.  In 1992 he became senior pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Wenatchee.

Rev. Brown returned to the Puget Sound region in 2001 to serve as executive director of Deaconess Children’s Services, a 25-person social service agency that helps vulnerable children and families in Snohomish County.

During his time in Kirkland, Rev. Brown directed the board of the Lake Washington School District. In Wenatchee, he fought a high profile battle to overturn an illegal mayoral election. Over the years, he has served on many public bodies – including the Chelan/Douglas County United Way and the Snohomish County Human Services Council – dedicated to improving human services. He currently helps lead several ecumenical and community bodies including the Committee to End Homelessness in King County.

Rev. Brown graduated from the University of Washington in 1978, and earned a master’s degree from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary (1982) and a doctorate from Princeton Theological Seminary (1997). In 2005 he received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Garrett-Evangelical.  First introduced to the Church Council when he was a college student, Rev. Brown has for many years supported the Council’s aim of giving faith a voice in public life.

Michael Ramos
Director of Social Justice Ministries

Michael Ramos joined the Church Council as Director of Social Justice Ministries in April 2004 after more than 15 years experience in faith-based advocacy, organizing and pastoral ministry.

A native of New York, Michael came to the Pacific Northwest two decades ago and earned a Master of Divinity Degree from Seattle University.

Before coming to the Church Council he served with the Washington Association of Churches and helped to coordinate the 2003 Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride.

He has also worked for the Catholic Diocese of Oakland as the Director of Latino Ministry.

As Director of Social Justice Ministries, Michael works with congregations and community groups - as well as Church Council Task Forces and Commissions - to enhance our common work for peace and economic, racial and social justice.
