The Labor/Religious/Community Coalition invites your congregation to participate in Labor in the Pulpits 2008.  On the Labor in the Pulpits day, clergy may choose to preach on Scriptures with messages of worker and economic justice, civil rights, or human services for those who are low-income.

This year's theme is Put People First:  Providing Resources for the Community.  When budgets are tight, as they will be at the county and state levles in 2009, the needs of people in our communities are often cast aside or ignored.  We need to make clear that people should be the priority for our elected officials and that together we will make our voices heard in the halls of power so that "first things are put first."

To participate, choose one religious service between August 31 and September 28 for Labor in the Pulpits.  We can send materials for focusing on local issues as well as background educational materials that you can use if they are helpful.  In addition, members of the Coalition will offer themselves as guest speakers who can address current campaigns and issues based on their direct experience.

If your congregation is interested in participating, please contact Ann Erickson at AErickson@thechurchcouncil.org or by phone at 206-525-1213 x 3040 with the following information by August 15:
